Description:
This mural celebrates the life and literature of our native son,
Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winner John Steinbeck. It has been created
from images of his childhood such as the family home in Salinas,
riding his pony (The Red Pony) in the California Rodeo
Parade and his participation on the Salinas High School track
team. As a young man making the commitment to be a writer, Steinbeck's
days living and working in the Salinas Valley are reflected in
his major works, The Grapes of Wrath, The Red Pony,
Of Mice and Men, East Of Eden, and Travels With
Charley In Search Of America. Steinbeck's novels speak of
honest and simple truths, timeless and alive for all that read
his works. This mural attempts to capture just a few of those
wonderful and vibrate images that flow from the pages of his writing.
